Coach Matt Reid
Since establishing Reider Hockey, LLC in 2019, Matt Reid has committed to providing consistent and high quality skill and player development services to his clients. From this place of passion and dedication, Reider Hockey has quickly become a staple in the DMV area for players wanting to refine their hockey skills and progress to higher and higher levels.
From the day he stepped foot on the ice at 3 years old, Matt quickly showed a natural talent for skating and a love for the game of hockey. Proving to be a top player in his hometown of Massena, NY, Matt won a Division I state championship his first year at Massena HS and shined as a star forward at Northwood Prep School in Lake Placid, NY. Matt had the honor of playing in Germany and Japan for the US National U-16 and U-17 teams as well as accepted a full scholarship to play for Clarkson University's Golden Knights (NCAA-DI), becoming ECAC Champions in 1999.
Matt's professional playing career continued when he was contracted by the Washington Capitals organization to play for the AHL's Portland Pirates and Hershey Bears as well as the ECHL's Pee Dee Pride and Carolina Stingrays. Ending his playing career in the Netherlands with 08/09 Dutch Champion's HYS The Hague, Matt was a part of 4 championship teams, received numerous team MVP and Offensive awards, and was coached by several current NHL coaches, including Colorado Avalanche's Jared Bednar. Matt attributes much of his playing success to his former coaches and fellow teammates turned life-long friends to include NHL and Stanley Cup winners Erik Cole, Willie Mitchell, Derek Lalonde, and Jared Bednar.
Shortly after completing his 9 year professional career, Matt settled down in Charleston, SC and discovered his love for not on playing hockey but also coaching. Coaching at the youth and high-school levels, Matt quickly built his reputation as a top coach in the area and was named SC Coach of the Year for 2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2017/2018.
In early 2018, Matt moved with his wife and two dogs to Maryland accepting a position as Team Maryland's Director of Skill Development and Head Coach of the AAA U16 team, taking his players all the way to becoming the 2018 AYHL Champions! Coach Reid served 6 seasons as Head Coach, Director of Skill Development, and EHL Team Maryland Assistant Coach. Matt was named Skills Coach in 22/23 for DeMatha High School Varsity and Prep teams.
Unfortunately with the January 2023 announcement of Team Maryland Youth Club's acquisition by Black Bears Sports Group, Coach Reid left the TM program immediately following the end of the 22/23 season and focused to deepen Reider's Hockey player clientele around the Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania areas. In March of 2023 Matt was named the Head Coach and Assistant GM of the EHL PA Huntsmen as the Junior A team entered their inaugural 23/24 season.
Coach Reid most recently joined JRC Hockey Management as Co- Managing Partner- Player Development to provided next level advisory services to players look to advance to the college and pro-levels. And moving into the 24/25 season, Coach Reid will serve as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Jr Knights 16U AAA Head Coach and Head of Player Advancement for the Knights organization.
Reider Hockey Group recruits top level players for development, on and off ice training and spring & summer travel from all over the east coast and Canada. Looking towards the future, our mission has and will continue to be about providing high quality coaching and instilling a love for the game of hockey for all players.
